About the Brand

If it has the Cu+ mark, it’s continuously killing pathogenic microbes

Antimicrobial Copper is the umbrella term for a range of copper alloys including brass, bronze and copper-nickel with rapid and broad spectrum efficacy against disease-causing bacteria, viruses and fungi. No other material is proven to be more effective at continuously killing microbes that cause infections.

The Antimicrobial Copper Service Mark (logo) and Certification Mark (Cu+) are used by leading material suppliers, designers, specifiers and manufacturers of components and systems, to indicate their products and services employ Antimicrobial Copper.

The marks signify scientific validation that products are made from the most effective antimicrobial material, backed by peer-reviewed published laboratory and clinical research and independent verification through US EPA registration. Antimicrobial Copper is the only solid metal touch surface registered by the US EPA to continuously kill bacteria that cause infections, including MRSA, Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and E. coli O157:H7.

Antimicrobial Copper Mark

The Mark indicates that products bearing it are made from approved antimicrobial copper alloys intended for use in appropriate environments and are provided by suppliers that have agreed to meet the technical requirements of the registration scheme.

Copper and copper alloys are engineering materials that are durable, colourful and recyclable and are widely available in various product forms suitable for a range of manufacturing purposes. Copper and its alloys offer a suite of materials for designers of functional, sustainable and cost-effective products.

Copper and certain copper alloys have intrinsic antimicrobial properties (so-called ‘Antimicrobial Copper’) and products made from these materials have an additional, secondary benefit of contributing to hygienic design. Products made from Antimicrobial Copper are a supplement to, not a substitute for standard infection control practices. It is essential that current hygiene practices are continued, including those related to the cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces.
